CGA History
Bishop James and Sis. Linda Marshall arrived in Selma, AL, in July of 1981, after Selma native, Alma Jefferson, informed him of a need for a United Pentecostal Church (UPC) that was more representative of black culture. The Marshalls had lived in various locations throughout the U.S.A., from Houston, TX to South Bend, IN, and Sis. Marshall was uncertain about the move. But after much prayer and fasting, Bishop felt God drawing him to the city, and in the end God's will won.
The Marshalls began by conducting services at a local church and then a store front. The Lord's purpose was wrought as the first soul baptized in Jesus' name was save under Bishop's ministry in Selma, and the beginning was revealed. The Bishop was given the church name 'Christian Grace Apostolic Church,' as they believed that the grace of God would always abide.
After eight years, and with the growth of their personal family (their four children Jacob, Benjamin, Arie and Timbrala), and their church family, Christian Grace was blessed to move to 2929 Citizens Parkway, where they currently reside.
Twenty years in Selma, and the Lord has blessed Christian Grace ministry to influence the ministries of five new churches, pastors, many ministers, prophets, apostles, a Bishop, evangelists and many gifts of God given to the saints - all this from such humble beginnings.
Bishop and 1st Lady Marshall know they have truly been blessed coming to Selma, for God's work for this ministry has truly been accomplished through the ministry of Christian Grace Apostolic Church.
